Child Care Aware® of America’s comprehensive study Child Care Deserts: Developing Solutions to Child Care Supply and Demand addresses the issue of access to high-quality, affordable child care and the increasing gap between child care supply and demand for families across the country.
This report represents extensive research including a literature review, focus groups with parents seeking child care, and interviews with key child care leaders across the country. Although this is our first foray exploring this important issue, we have already learned a lot from our parent focus groups, as well as the key stakeholders who shared their studies on child care supply and demand with us.

With the passage of the Child Care and Development Block Grant Act of 2014, it is paramount that states and communities understand how to study child care supply and demand, analyze their findings, identify areas of child care deserts, and implement policy solutions that ensure parents have access to quality child care. We look forward to continuing our study of child care deserts and providing updates and recommendations.
